Brad Gallahar, Furniture Designer and MakerI am a designer and builder of fine furniture in the Skagit Valley area, near Seattle WA. My furniture has a clean contemporary look influenced primarily by the Arts and Crafts movement and Classic Early American styles. I enjoy drawing on the rich heritage of these styles to create furniture that is timeless in design and comfortable in today's home. My work is characterized by the use of contrasting woods, decorative veneers, and inlay lines, creating furniture that is not only functional and strong, but artistic and a pleasure to look at. The finest materials are used in the furniture I make. The wood I primarily use is cherry, but I have made many pieces out of walnut, maple, mahogany, and white oak as well. I build some pieces out of all solid wood, and some where I incorporate veneer . Some of the decorative veneers I use include koa, figured cherry, birdseye maple, and occasionally a burl such as maple or madrona. These are glued on a high quality substrate using a specialized veneer glue. Accent woods that I like to use for inlay include ebony, wenge, and holly. Wood types, dimensions, or design can vary according to your needs, with price sometimes being affected depending on the extent of the changes. I am also able to do custom designing and building for those who have a specific need or idea of what they want. Each piece is individually constructed with the highest level of craftsmanship and extreme attention to detail. This starts with selection of wood, sometimes involving matching veneers to get a striking tabletop, or grain matching a top or panel. Pieces are joined using traditional methods such as dowel, dovetail or mortise and tenon making for extremely strong furniture that will endure the rigors of everyday use. The finishing process starts with a clear penetrating oil, which helps to bring out the color and figure of the wood. This is followed by a low luster conversion varnish. This finish is extremely durable and maintenance free, and has the warm look and feel of a hand rubbed oil finish. From Gallahar Fine Furniture you can be assured you are getting the finest materials and craftsmanship, heirloom quality furniture that is both visually artistic and built to be used and enjoyed for many generations. My furniture can be seen at Northwest Fine Woodworking in Seattle WA. This is a cooperative owned by northwest woodworkers, of which I am a member.
